About Don Chin

My Client-First Philosophy

There are many qualities and skills that go into being an excellent real estate professional - integrity, in-depth community and market knowledge, marketing savvy, effective negotiation skills and a high-quality professional network, all of which are hallmarks of how I work.

That said, in my experience as a Eureka area real estate professional, I've also found that providing the very best service is essentially about putting my clients first. This means keeping myself accessible, being a good listener as well as a good communicator, and responding quickly to your needs.

This "client first" philosophy has always been my approach and it requires me to continually improve my skills and ways of doing business. In addition, I've found that the latest technologies are enabling me to do everything I've always done, only much more quickly and efficiently. They've also helped me to extend the range of services I provide to my clients.

So when you decide that you'd like to buy or sell a home in the Eureka areas, please contact me.

My Realtor Background

I am a native of Humboldt County and graduated from Humboldt State University with a BA degree in Journalism in 1986.   After a career in computer retailing and publishing, I became a licensed Realtor in 1998, and received the Humboldt Association of Realtors "Rookie of The Year" award for outstanding service in my profession, and in my community.

Within 2 years, I obtained my Realtor GRI designation, by passing an extended 50-hour education course in Real Estate principles which less than 10% of Realtors nationwide hold. In 2006, I became a licensed Real Estate Broker by passing the state Brokers exam and having a minimum 2 years of full-time experience.

For most of the past decade, I have been a consistent multi-million dollar sales producer, and typically ranked in the top 40 of salespersons in Humboldt County.

In 2004, I was elected by my peers to a serve a 3-year term on the Humboldt Association of Realtors Board of Directors and have participated in various fund-raisers to benefit "Toys For Kids", "Relay For Life" and other charities.  After the sale of my listed properties, I normally donate 10% of my sales commission to local charities of our mutual choice.  Some of the recent beneficiaries of these donations include Food For People, Humane Society, Friends of the Dunes, Friends of the Redwood Libraries, Pregnancy Care Center of the Northcoast, Voice of the Martyrs, and Redwood Empire Little League Baseball.

My Personal Interests

I am an active member of Sunny Brae Church in Arcata, and in the past served on the Board of Directors for the Eureka Rescue Mission and participate in work to help the homeless. I actively recycle and try to be a good steward of the earth's resources. My hobbies include reading, music, creative writing, photography, computer website design, digital publishing, comic books and cartooning, sports & sports memorabilia, watching movies and spending time with my precious wife Laura, whom I have been married since 1989.  I have a daughter and two grandchildren.

I have lived in Humboldt County for nearly 50 years with my family. I live by the Biblical creed to “regard others as more important than myself”.
